Eyup!
I'm Heather (She/her), an illustrator, muralist and printmaker from Stockport. My work plays with female forms, bold colours, hand drawn typefaces and thoughtful compositions. I work across mediums from painting and printmaking, to mural making and sculpture, and design. I use figurative, folk-like motifs combined with graphic shapes and painterly patterns. My pieces often include depictions of sisterhood, and women, punctuated with emblematic and decorative elements that carry hidden meanings or narratives. These stories often surrounding femininity, and spiritual connections with nature.

I'm a proud Stopfordian and the creative community that surrounds me significantly inspires my practice. I am interested in all things kitsch, nostalgic and playful, which contrasts with my love of brutalist buildings and northern england.
Alongside my illustration work, I also facilitate arts workshops in print-based mediums, book making and mural making. I founded — Roots riso, a female, queer led risograph printing collective.
I am also Co-founder of Underbank Studios CIC, and currently the Director
& Programme Producer.

As Co-founder, Heather has over 4 years experience directing and developing the community arts organisation Underbank Studios and it’s outputs from conception. Heather has curated exhibitions, programmed and managed multiple high level arts events, and has developed extensive experience in artist liason and technical support–from workshop facilitation, and printmaking assistance to exhibition installs.
As a practicing visual artist, Heather has exhibited and worked on curation at galleries such as HOME Manchester, XYZ Cafe in Vietnam, and more locally; in Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery, Underbank Studios & On The Brink Studio. She has designed and installed many large scale murals, in Manchester and across the UK, using mediums such as spray paint. Heather now has anround 7 years experience in Mural making.

Heather currently works part time as a Lecturer of Illustration & Graphic Design at University Campus Oldham.
Heather also facilitates arts workshops in a variety of contexts, workshops which often compliment or inform her other practices. She has worked with marginalised communities, through her work with Black Path Press, in Middlesborough, and Sick Festival’s, Moston Lane Project. Throughout her MA she used printmaking and zinemaking as a tool for engagment and enquiry with low socio-economic areas. She has also designed mural making workshops which shared skills with emerging artists. Heather founded Roots Riso; a printing collective based in Stockport. She regularly runs a risograph printing workshop called ‘Risocial’.
